"LACTULOSE"
When the stool become hard then it is known as constipation. There are so many people who are suffering from this problem and in this case, lactulose may be the salvation of this problem. In this article, we will learn all about lactulose.
Indication:
- Constipation.
- Hepatic encephalopathy.
Dosage & Administration:
For constipation-
Adults:
Initially, 15 ml two times daily or adjust according to patient's need.
Children:
- Under 1 year 2.5 ml two times daily.
- 1-5 years 5 ml twice daily.
- 5-10 years 10 ml twice daily.
For Hepatic encephalopathy-
30-50 ml three times daily.
Contraindications:
Lactulose is contraindicated in patients with galactosemia and intestinal obstruction.
Side effects:
Primary or initial dosing may produce flatulence and intestinal cramps, which are usually transient. Overdose may occur diarrhea.
